Software comparison

Two takes on the digital call sheet.

SetHero is a browser-based production tool built around digital call sheets and crew confirmation, and it is closer to CallSheet in purpose than a full suite is. The differences are where you build, what happens when the location has no signal, and what a revision does to the people who were not affected.

The production decision

Both send a call sheet. They disagree about where the work happens.

A browser tool assumes a connection and a keyboard. CallSheet assumes you are standing somewhere with one bar and the phone you already carry, so the entire build runs on device: the editor, the Crew Directory, Sun Path, and PDF export all work before an account exists and before the network does.

What production needs
How CallSheet handles it
Build with no signal
CallSheet runs the whole editor on device. An account is needed only to send.
Start from people you already have
Apple's contact picker imports only the people you select. No full address book upload.
Send one person a change
CallSheet selects the recipients whose information changed and shows you that list before sending.
Plan the sun
Sun Path gives true-north direction and elevation across the run of day, not just sunrise and sunset.

Working sequence

From plan to current crew handoff.

  1. Look at where you build

If you always have a laptop and a connection, a browser tool is fine. If you build on set, that assumption breaks.

  2. Look at the revision

Count how often a change affects three people and reaches thirty.

  3. Look at the crew's side

Whatever you choose, the people receiving it should not have to install or learn anything.

Truth boundary

What CallSheet does, and what stays a production judgment.

This compares approach rather than feature lists or prices, both of which change. Check SetHero's own site for their current plans. CallSheet is a one-producer tool and does not model a production office with shared seats.

Questions about CallSheet vs. SetHero.

How is CallSheet different from SetHero?

Mainly where the work happens. CallSheet is an iPhone and iPad app whose editor, Crew Directory, Sun Path, and PDF export run with no account and no network, and it builds the crew list from the Apple Contacts already on your phone.

Can I build a call sheet without a connection?

In CallSheet, yes. Everything up to the send works offline. An account and a connection are required only when you send.

Do both track confirmations?

Crew confirmation is central to both. In CallSheet you see who opened the private link and who confirmed, per recipient.

How many recipients does one send reach?

CallSheet delivers to up to 100 recipients per send, which covers a unit and its cast.
